German Global Health Hub Talk December 5-6, 2024 in Berlin
The German Global Health Hub Talk held between December 5-6, 2024, in Berlin brought together leading experts from different stakeholder groups and high-level officials to discuss critical issues in Global Health.
This event provided a great opportunity for interdisciplinary and cross-sectoral exchange, and to engage in lively discussions around global health. The JA GHI was invited to take part through its German partner, Robert Koch Institute (RKI), and the French JA GHI coordinator, Dr. Jérôme Weinbach from the French Ministry of Health.
Dr. Iris Hunger from RKI participated to the panel discussion on “Aligning Forces: Bridging Instruments and Actors to Maximise Europe’s Global Health Engagement”. Dr. Hunger shared the key actions and challenges of bridging partners within the European Joint Action JA GHI.

As she rightly pointed out, the European joint action JA GHI is political and highly diplomatic in nature as it involves ministries of health, ministries of foreign affairs, as well as universities and national public health institutes. A first approach undertaken within the joint action JA GHI was a discussion on the concept of “Global Health” to reach a common and shared understanding amongst the 33 partners of the JA GHI.
This clarification on the definition of Global Health facilitated the exchange of facts and data in order to build a picture of the projects and initiatives carried out by the Member states in the field of Global Health and to estimate their funding investment.
The exercise of mapping what is being done in the field of Global Health will enable the EU to communicate effectively on Global Health by conveying key messages, and thereby maximising the impact of the EU strategy as perceived by international stakeholders.
Furthermore, to assess the impact of the EU global health strategy, a suggestion forum will be launched to gather the views of non-European partners. This open-access platform is envisaged as an essential tool for strengthening the engagement of all stakeholders in the field of Global Health.
