JA GHI

European Joint Action to maximise the impact of the EU Global Health Strategy

Project Objective

The overarching objective of the European Joint Action on Global Health Initiatives (JA GHI) is to enhance the EU’s strategic approach and impact in global health. The project aims to establish robust mechanisms for coordination, information sharing, and communication to ensure the EU speaks with a unified and authoritative voice on global health issues. Through these efforts, JA GHI seeks to maximize the visibility, coherence, and effectiveness of the EU’s contributions to global health.

Project Context

The European Union (EU) has consistently demonstrated leadership in addressing global health challenges, notably through its collaborative Team Europe approach during the COVID-19 pandemic. This unified effort highlighted the strength of coordinated actions between the EU and its Member States (MS) in tackling complex global health crises. Building on this momentum, the EU has launched the new Global Health Strategy, which emphasizes the need for enhanced coordination, visibility, and collective impact. Achieving these goals requires strategic mechanisms to ensure that EU contributions to global health are impactful, aligned with fundamental values, and influential in shaping a new global health order.

Project Rationale

Global health is a cornerstone of the EU’s external action and fundamental to promoting human rights, equity, and sustainability worldwide. In an increasingly interconnected world, the EU’s ability to effectively coordinate actions and speak with a coherent voice on global health matters is paramount. The JA GHI project addresses the pressing need to bridge gaps between EU institutions and Member States, align national and European strategies, and optimize decision-making processes. By strengthening coordination, promoting the Team Europe approach, and enhancing communication, the EU can solidify its leadership role and influence in global health fora.
